   Abbey falls: In the mountains of the western   ghats, several streams combine, swelling with the  monsoon rains and plunging down the  mountain slope at enormous speed, hitting the  huge boulders hard and forcing through the  crevices and ravines. From here the water flows  into the Kaveri river. The waterfall is located  between private coffee plantations with stocky  coffee bushes and spice estates with trees  entwined with pepper vines. A hanging bridge is  constructed just opposite the falls comes in handy for the tourists. There is a  Kali Mata temple on the other side of the bridge and Coffee and Black Pepper trees on the other side. Abbey falls is located 8 kilometers from Madikeri.

  

 Raja Seat: Raja’s Seat, literally meaning Seat of  the King, is located at the western end of Madikeri  and is a well maintained garden with a great views  of the hills and the valley below and having a small  pavilion inside. The beautiful sunset and the far  stretching Blue Mountains will take ones breath  away. This beautiful hilltop offers spectacular view  of the Coorg Valley studded with paddy fields and  forests.


 

       Gaddige: Raja's tomb aka Gaddige is one of the most important places in Madikeri. This is important for both history lovers as well as for natural lovers, as this monument is located at a place from where you can get a commanding view of one part of Madikeri city.Two main tombs, one of King Veera Rajendra and his wife, another of his brother Linga Rajendra, which mark the place’s significance are located in the central structure. You can find Shiv linga in the tomb, as the King was a Hindu.Gaddige is located at around 1.5 km towards north of Madikeri city.

 

   Mandalpatti: Mandalpatti is one of the best tourist spots in Coorg. It comes under "Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary". Far stretching green mountains and the cool breeze will definitely make one feel like heaven. One would be baffled to see the mountains which seem changing hues every second. It is green from a small distance, blue from a certain distance away, and becomes murky to the eye afar. Mandalpatti hills are located around 25- 30 km from Madikeri. A right deviating road just 4 kms before Abbi Falls will lead to Mandalpatti.

 

         Omkareshwara temple: Located at the heart of the city,Omkareshwara temple was built by king Lingarajendra in 1820. The temple has both Islamic and Gothic styles of architecture, built around a central pool. It is said Lingarajendra killed an honest and pious Brahmin to fulfill his political ambitions. That Brahmin became a "Brahmarakshasa" and started troubling the king. In order to purify himself for the killing of a Brahmin, he was advised to construct a temple to Lord Shiva. He brought a Shivalinga  from Kashi , and the temple was built and named "Omkareshwara".

 

 

          Fort: Madikeri fort was first built by Mudduraja in the last quarter of the 17th century. He also built a palace inside the fort. It was eventually rebuilt in granite by Tipu Sultan who named the site as Jaffarabad.One can find two life size masonry elephants in the north-east corner at the entrance and a church in the south-east corner.There is a famous Lord Ganesha temple known as "Kote ganapathi" just at the main entrance of the fort.
